If you're one of the many people currently considering the merits of invisible braces then you'll almost certainly have come across the name Invisalign, the leading manufacturer of clear braces in the UK. The immediate benefits of invisible braces are clear to see, or rather, they're almost impossible to see, which is of course the whole point!
Wearing braces is something which many people find is something which, whilst producing an excellent end result, involves a lengthy and sometimes uncomfortable process during which one's appearance is distinctly marred by the wearing of large, very obvious metal or wire braces. Being able to enjoy all of the benefits of teeth alignment without the problem of wearing obvious braces is certainly good reason enough for choosing a company such as Invisalign.
But it is important to be aware of the whole story, because whilst wearing invisible braces offers a very obvious benefit, invisibility is not the only benefit they offer. At the same time there are some issues which can make Invisalign braces unsuitable for some people, and so it's important to look beyond the obvious reason why people choose clear braces, and be more aware of the whole story.
One of the major benefits besides the appearance of invisible braces is the fact that they need only be worn for a much shorter period of time than traditional braces. Whereas you might expect to have to wear normal braces for a couple of years or more, Invisalign braces usually need only be worn for a few months, achieving the same effective end result but in a much shorter space of time.
There's another advantage in that clear braces such as those manufactured by Invisalign can be removed at any time, such as for cleaning teeth, for important photos or even when eating certain foods which might be difficult or impossible to eat when wearing a brace.
Finally the advantages also include the fact that the end result of the teeth alignment process is far more accurately known and controlled, as a computer is used to create a virtual reality 3D model of your teeth, which the Invisalign dentist uses to move your teeth from their current position to the desired end position. The computer then creates a series of intermediary stages, and then manufactures the clear braces so that they achieve the desired outcome.
But whilst all these benefits sound fantastic, it's important to be aware of some of the reasons why people decide not to wear invisible braces. One of the first reasons is the fact than unlike with normal braces, there's no having them fitted and forgetting it. With invisible braces from Invisalign it is necessary to visit your dentist every two weeks throughout the entire process. At each visit you'll be given a new set of braces which will be slightly different from the previous pair, helping to continue nudging your teeth in the right direction.
This is a significant commitment, and it's one which needs to be considered carefully. Another issue for many people is the fact that invisible braces need a good deal more self control and discipline, simply because of the fact that they can so easily be removed. If you are tempted to remove them, and forget to put them in shortly afterwards then the brace may no longer fit, and you may need to start the whole process all over again. It's therefore important that you have the discipline to overcome the temptation of removing the invisible braces all the time, keeping them in for at least 23 hours out of every 24 hour period.
Weighing up the pros and the cons is a personal choice, but it is important to be aware of all of the benefits and possible problems when choosing Invisalign invisible braces.
