"Smile, you're on camera!" Those words are enough to force some people's mouths tightly shut, so ashamed are they of their pearly creams. If you haven't heard of the name Invisalign then you may well be just such a person, but if there is one thing which Invisalign as a leading dental organisation in the UK has been able to achieve it's getting more people to say 'cheese' at any opportune moment.

Invisalign is a company which specialises in teeth alignment but it's far more than that. For many years teeth alignment has just been about wearing braces, and all of us know only too well what they look like. Traditional braces are large, clumsy affairs which dig into your gums, prevent you from talking properly, stop you from eating your favourite foods and become the most dominant feature of your face for several of your most formative years.

Most people tend to see braces as being one of the staple elements in the stereotypical teenager. There's no doubt that traditional braces have certainly made a difference, and the results which they can achieve demonstrate clearly why people have continued to choose to wear them. However, the world of teeth alignment, and in particular the world of braces, has been changed dramatically following the introduction of what Invisalign are able to offer.

Invisalign are now able to provide what is generally being referred to as invisible braces, although since invisibility is clearly a scientific impossibility it would be more accurate to call them clear braces. However, the difference for what it's worth is negligible, since it is perfectly possible to work alongside someone every single day and have no idea that they are wearing invisible braces.

The braces which are supplied by Invisalign work in a totally different way from traditional braces, and are about as far removed from the problems associated with wearing normal braces as taking the Orient Express is from the Luton early morning commuter journey whilst juggling sixteen balls and reciting the complete works of Shakespeare. If you've never tried that, be reassured that it's fairly difficult, and not something you'd choose to do with very much enthusiasm.

Invisible braces are made from a transparent gel which slides over your teeth. Because the material is transparent, and very thin, and is also shaped to mould the contours of your teeth exactly, it is virtually undetectable. You'd have to look hard at someone's teeth, knowing what you're looking for, to be able to tell.

The benefits of invisible braces are, for many people, irrelevant, since their very invisibly or discretion is advantage enough. But there are other benefits to wearing the clear braces offered by Invisalign. To begin with the treatment can be completed in a fraction of the time accomplished by normal braces. What fraction exactly? Believe it or not, half the time. That means that whereas you might normally expect to have to wear standard braces for 3 years, with clear braces you could have the perfect smile you're after in just 18 months.

When you also consider that Invisalign braces can easily be removed at any time, enabling you to eat your favourite foods, brush and floss more efficiently, and pose for professional photos such as graduation pictures with complete confidence, not to mention the fact that they don't affect your speech and are completely comfortable, it's quite hard to think of any good reason why in 18 months' time you wouldn't be zipping open your grin every time a camera came within a hundred yards. Cheese!
