It's a question which really should have been asked of dental recruitment agencies some time ago. Just exactly why have dental agencies been sticking so rigidly to the same old tired systems of years ago, failing entirely to get to grips with the fact that online technology now offers dozens of excellent alternatives to offline computer systems?
If you are looking for dental jobs then you have very few options. Or at least, you had very few options - but more of that in a moment. Your options until recently were to either run round every dental surgery in the district offering a copy of your CV and asking about jobs, which is not something you can do on a regular basis, and isn't terribly helpful or successful. Alternatively you could visit a dental recruitment agency where you'd be invited to write down everything in your CV on a separate form, where it would then be filed before being typed up on the computer at some later date, and then left for a while until someone had time to manually go through a number of searches.
Unsurprisingly two things tended to happen. The candidates would apply to more than one agency, which didn't actually help the matter at all, and of course everyone had to sit around waiting for days, and very often weeks, for any progress. Of course it should be noted that it hasn't just been those people looking for dental jobs who have been having problems and becoming very frustrated with the out of date system.
Surgeries themselves have also found the existing systems less than adequate. When they need a new dental professional their only real option is to approach a dental recruitment agency, but in their case they also need to pay quite high fees for the privilege. After paying very high agency fees they are then forced to wait for ages before being offered various potential candidates.
It's hardly cutting edge, and there are now so many online examples of systems which could be used to replace this existing dental recruitment structure, and which work very much more effectively, and considerably more quickly. For example, you might consider dating sites. If you're looking for a possible online date then you wouldn't expect to have to submit a paper document, wait for it to be typed up, and then hang around for days or weeks before seeing possible matches. Most dating sites tend to advertise the fact that you can be registered in minutes and browsing potential matches just seconds later.
The systems are now very advanced and often able to match people up using a wide range of variables, with a good degree of success. Not that the author has much personal experience of such sites you understand! But the point is that this is just one example of an online networking model which could have been used a long time ago by dental recruitment agencies.
Perhaps the real reason why they haven't used such a system is that it could reduce the agency fees, but nonetheless, there is good news, because today there is just such an online service. It could be considered the combination of existing dental recruitment agencies and online dating services, offering a free to use facility which enables dental professionals and dental surgeries to find each other quickly, be matched more closely and more effectively, and stand more chance of enjoying a long and happy relationship in the future.
