Do you love your bathroom? If not, did you used to, but have since fallen out? When it comes to bathrooms Manchester seems to have a growing number of people who are learning to fall in love with their bathrooms all over again. Or, more accurately, Manchester has witnessed a great many people dumping their old bathroom for a new, younger model!

The problem with bathrooms is that they are often one of the smallest rooms in the house, yet are used by the whole family, and often by guests and visitors, are used every day, and are used to store a bewildering variety of potions, lotions, balms and creams. This diversity of use, limited space and high storage demand can make bathrooms very quickly transform from quiet, calm, relaxing spaces where you can pander to your own personal needs in comfort and style, to a musty, dusty environment which makes the bottom of the linen bin seem a more attractive place to get yourself ready.

Rows of bottles and jars stacked along the edge of the bath, shelves, on top of cabinets and along the window sill can quickly gather dust. Bathrooms are terrible for dust, because the combination of hair, talcum powder, soft fluffy towels and dead skin (yes, that's largely what dust is, and most of your skin drops off in the bathroom for obvious reasons) all adds up to a veritable mountain of dust. It seems to stick and congeal on jars, especially where their sticky contents has dribbled down the outside of the bottle slightly, making everything seem rather dirty and unappealing very quickly.

But it's also often the case that over time your bathroom needs change. Having a new baby can make your bathroom seem immediately inadequate, and children have their own needs as they grow up. Your bathroom may have been fine for a time, but if your partner has moved in, or moved out, or any other of your circumstances have changed, your bathroom may need a new facelift itself.

So why is it that when it comes to bathrooms Manchester seems pretty content with itself and its bathrooms? The answer is that, for one reason or another, Manchester seems to have attracted several rather influential bathroom designers, and with bathroom showrooms now very much in evidence across the city, people are witnessing the opportunities which new designer bathrooms offer. Nothing puts your own bathroom into an undeniably stark reality than exploring designer bathrooms in showrooms.

One of the reasons why people don't always tend to head off purposely to explore new bathrooms is that they don't always realise just how frustrated they are with their existing bathroom. It's easy to become complacent, ignoring the inadequacies. One cure for this is to go on holiday and stay in a high quality hotel with a first rate bathroom. Coming home can be something of a shock.

But some people don't always consider a new designer bathroom because they tend to assume that a designer bathroom is all about sleek curves, slick designs and fancy extras which are largely unnecessary, with practicalities, functionality and usefulness largely ignored.

The truth, however, is quite different. Because when it comes to useful, functional and practical bathrooms, Manchester based designers have demonstrated clearly that they really do live in the same world as we do. They really do use the toilet themselves, and they even have baths and shave each morning. They've taken the everyday needs of real people and integrated these into innovative bathroom designs which look good, feel great, and actually help solve those niggling problems such as versatility, space and storage, which means you may just be able to fall in love all over again, with your very own sleek, good looking bathroom.
